A distinguished Cooperative European Group, based in the famous
Institute
"Jules Bordet" of Bruxelles. As they say about themselves:
"... In 1978, with
the idea of fighting against what is a real health plague, J. Klastersky created
within the scope
of the Jules Bordet Institute of Brussels, a cooperative group of oncologists
and chest physicians from various Belgian institutions. This local Belgian
group, working initially within the EORTC, expanded progressively and was joined
in 1985 by French investigators, giving it an European outlet through
institutions from France and afterwards from Luxembourg, Greece, Italy, Spain,
Germany, Portugal, Slovakia and the Czech Republic....The Jules Bordet Institute
provides the Group with its logistic support: J.-P. Sculier ensures the
coordination of clinical trials and the organisation of the Group’s meetings and
he is assisted by P. Mommen, a data manager nurse, and by M. Paesmans, a
biostatistician. Given the increasing importance of the group and its works, the
Group obtained legal autonomy founding the European Lung Cancer Working Party (ELCWP)
in 1988.... Drawing their dynamism from a scientific, brotherly and European
spirit, the members of the ELCWP are wedded to the objective of seeing a
significant decline in the death rate due to bronchial cancer in the 21st
century..."

ALCASE provides technical
information, psychological help, and practical support to lung cancer patients and their
families. ALCASE has developed several links with the Academic Medicine,
stimulating and supporting, worldwide, researchers and scientists. In Italy,
CuLCaSG, thanks to the dedication of an own group of ex-patients and volunteers (ALCASE-Italia), has started a fruitful
collaboration with ALCASE (e.g., we have given assistance in translating the original WEB
pages of ALCASE, so that their Italian version is available on the Internet).
As they say about themselves:
"ALCASE is a national not-for-profit organization
dedicated solely to helping people with lung cancer, and those who
are at risk for the disease, improve the quality of their lives
through advocacy, support, and education."
ALCASE is the American counterpart of
ALCASE Italia.
